we file jointly, and this is just a small side job he does maybe 2-3 times a yearIf my spouse and I have 3 jobs between us and 1 job grossed less than $700, do we have to file that W-2?
Yes. If you got a W-2, the information on that W-2 has already been provided to the IRS. That $700 won't add a lot to your taxes due, but if you don't include it, and the IRS catches up with you, you'll owe the tax plus a lot of additional penalties. Better to do what you're supposed to now and not worry about it later. If my spouse and I have 3 jobs between us and 1 job grossed less than $700, do we have to file that W-2?
YES
Yes, you have to file ALL of the W-2's you receive.
YES, you must total and file the income on ALL your W2's.
That income has been reported to the IRS.
All W-2 get sent to the IRS, regardless of the amount. You do not want to exlucde reported income from your tax returns.
you must report all wages you earned from Jan 1, 2007 thru Dec. 31, 2007 on your income tax return, if you don't then you are underreporting and in about 12-18 months IRS will send you a CP2000 for underreported income and then you might owe IRS.
You don't want to owe the IRS.
